So it’s been a little while and I thought I’d catch things up a bit here.
It’s been a pretty busy (and hot!) summer, even hotter in Florida when my parents and I took a trip to Orlando and then Jensen Beach to see my cousin and new cousin-in-law Janine and Mario get married! It was a great trip, beautiful wedding and a lot of fun to spend some time with family.
Such an awesome way to start the summer, and a nice opportunity to see some areas of Florida that I haven’t seen before. I’ve been to Florida a few times before and had the opportunity to see Disney, Universal, Kennedy Space Centre and a few other cool attractions but this time we took it pretty easy… we arrived in Orlando, relaxed at the hotel and then decided to check out Kennedy Space Centre again which was a popular one with my Dad! It’s rare to see him get too excited about something so that was fun 😛
To give you an idea of his level of excitement – he bought the souvenir picture. I don’t know if this is a big deal for anyone else, but in my family we almost never buy the souvenir picture. My siblings were understandably shocked and impressed.
Kennedy Space Centre is such a cool attraction and I was really impressed because it’s changed a lot since I last visited a few years ago. Their Atlantis attraction is incredible and it was amazing to see where NASA is planning to go next. Just a really cool experience.
After KSC we took a road trip to Jensen Beach – my parents and I disagree on the purpose of road trips. I’m more about the destination, they quite enjoy the journey. “Scenic route” is a phrase I’ve grown up with, but somehow it just hasn’t rubbed off on me. We agree to disagree. Sort of.
Anyway we arrived in Jensen Beach, somewhere I didn’t even know existed, and were wowed by the beauty of the location. Such a lovely place to have a wedding. My cousin and his two boys, Jack & Ben, were there which was lots of fun as always. They get to hang off me, I get to pick them up and throw them across the pool – win/win. We had a day to chill before the wedding so got to spend some time with cousins, aunts and uncles – always great to get together as a group!
They had an outdoor ceremony which was right beside the ocean – incredibly beautiful, and very nice and short! In the Florida heat in July this was much appreciated 😉 The reception afterwards was wonderful, speeches gave confirmation as to the wonderful relationship these two shared. It’s wonderful to have Mario part of the family, and the food was fantastic! Talk about getting full!
The following day we all woke up and a few of us made our way back to Orlando, my uncle Dennis and his family and our family stayed at a hotel in Orlando close to the airport. Got some last minute swimming and fun in, shared a great meal and got ready for the flight home.
Overall a really nice few days!
Since getting home the summer has really flown by – I see my last post here was early July, it’s now the end of August and I honestly couldn’t tell you where it went. The weekends have been busy, some family events, some fun with friends, a great time packing backpacks for Start2Finish and a great theatre trip for my Mom and I to see Matilda in Toronto (highly recommended!).
This past weekend we went up to Rock Point Provincial Park for a quick camping trip, which was awesome. The beach was perfect, I got a book in, had some great steak, s’mores and hot dogs. What could possibly be better?
Work wise it’s been non-stop, and a little more relaxed – our office is under construction so we’re working from home for a month! I’ve been in the office a little bit at a temporary setup a couple days a week for payroll and meetings but otherwise it’s been working in my PJ’s from home! Not a bad way to go mid-summer.
And that’s pretty much it… now that I’ve had a bit of a catch-up post I’m gonna try to get back to my “picture of week” idea again. I’m struggling on where to go next – I’m looking for a two week adventure and am currently thinking South Africa would be a great trip but I’m also thinking I should not spend too much money :p oh the struggles. We’ll see how that develops!
