While I’m getting psyched up for the iWitness trip, it’s hard to forget that another one is coming up this year as well – I just booked the flights for my Alaska Trip this July! We’re doing a family cruise to Alaska which is very exciting – to be honest a few years ago I had very little interest in an Alaska cruise. My thought regarding cruises was that they should really be somewhere warm… that changed after my European Cruise.
While it was reasonably warm, it wasn’t “hot” and it wasn’t a Caribbean sort of thing – but I enjoyed that cruise more than I had enjoyed any of the Caribbean cruises. The opportunity to see pieces of Europe, the history, and the chance to do so much more than just lounging on a beach made coupled with the wonderful relaxation of the whole cruise experience made it one of my favourite vacations.
After that, I came around pretty quickly to Alaska. I’m very excited for what should be stunning scenery, apparently in July is a great opportunity to see Humpback and Blue Whales, and there will be lots of interesting places to visit and things to do in the ports. On top of that, I love cruising!! I was considering taking the Radiance of the Seas, which is the ship that we’re on for this one, on my journey from Hawaii to Australia, but wound up on the Rhapsody, so I’m excited to have a chance to see the Radiance, and the opportunity to vacation together as a family is one that only comes up so often, so that will be a lot of fun for us this year… it’s been a while since we’ve done a full vacation as a family together, though we do try to go camping yearly and things like that.
So the flights are booked! I’ll be in Vancouver for two full days before we have to hop on the ship, and I think Rebecca is going to come down with me around the same time. We both have places and people we want to see, but it’ll be fun to do a little touring together as well. Then on the Friday we all meet up and hop on the ship, arrive in Anchorage the following Friday where we stay overnight and wind up catching a long flight home Saturday night, arriving back Sunday morning.
So I’ve now got two countdowns actively running, two big trips to prepare for. Prepare for lots and lots of pictures 😛
