Hello… for some reason I’m feeling really lazy tonight, so we might actually get away with a short post. But then again, I’ve said that before.
Anyway Hi! I’m still in The Netherlands, staying with Laura and her boyfriend Matteo at their awesome house in The Hague. Yesterday I ventured around The Hague, took a tour of Parliament, visited the central library, did some shopping and biked around the city a bit before eating some absolutely delicious spaghetti with sauce that Laura and Matteo get when they go to Italy…mmmmmmmmmmm. It was extremely good 🙂
Moving to today, I went to visit the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia! I’m not sure if that interests you as much as it did me, so I apologize in advance, but I really enjoyed it. I’ve always been a fan of law, courts and all the technicalities that go along with them, and as luck would have it Matteo was examining a witness in one of the cases today! It was very cool to see the court, watch a live proceeding, and know the guy doing the questioning! Very interesting case, obviously related to the former Yugoslavia…and a rather amusing witness. I was very impressed with the whole thing! It’s amazing to hear about the processes, the people, time and money that goes into this, and it’s a comforting to know that a body like this exists, and will serve as a deterrent to crimes such as this in the future (we hope).
Anyway I was there for a little over an hour to see Matteo examine his witness, then Laura and I grabbed lunch at a very yummy hamburger place down the road from the court, and I set off to the “Gemeentemuseum Den Haag”. As you can probably guess, it’s a museum.
Very cool museum, mostly art focused, interesting architecture exhibits, and some interesting dutch art. It was neat to see some “big” pieces in there, plus the building itself is pretty cool, though somewhat confusingly laid out.
After a couple of hours there I made my way down to the sea to see what I could see see see… ha ha ha. Not funny, I know, I’m sorry.
But seriously, beautiful. I can imagine during the summer the beaches would be lovely, absolutely stunning place to spend some time. I locked up the bike and took a walk along the beach front in my full on winter gear, only to come upon someone in a wet suit surfing!!! Laura had mentioned to me that some friends of hers do that, but it was something else to actually see it, especially when I was freezing my ass off in a pretty warm coat, hat, gloves and scarf :p
Spent about an hour there before returning to Laura’s, tonight we went out to dinner to a wonderful Italian place (I really don’t think I can ever get enough of Italian food…), came back, caught up on internet stuff, and… here I am. Lazy and ready for bed 🙂
So that’s my day! Tomorrow I’m grabbing a train into Amsterdam, going to see the Anne Frank House along with some other cool Amsterdam sights, and then the day after I’m off! Presumably, at this point, to Copenhagen… but the flight booking site is very irritatingly offline right now, so we’ll see how that works in the morning.
Whatever you happen to be doing today, hope you enjoy it. T T Y L !
