Oh Paris…

Bonjour! I am back in Paris! Just over a year since my last visit actually… maybe this will become an annual thing? :p

The last 24 hours have very much been a travel day, unfortunately. Last night I tried to get to sleep around 9pm, and failed miserably… to the point where I simply didn’t get to sleep. I had to get up at 1am to catch a 2am bus from Puerto de Mogan, and I just couldn’t quite convince myself to sleep, so I kept myself comfortable in bed, emailed back and forth with people, and eventually rolled out of bed at 1am to grab a shower (which turned ice cold half way through – how many languages can I say not impressed in? – only one, but you get the idea) and get myself all ready to go.

Left the hostel at around 1:50am, bus scheduled for 2:20am. Didn’t take me more than 5 minutes to walk over (but I didn’t want to miss it – last one of the night) so I had a little time swaying in the wind. It is a GHOST TOWN at that hour – literally no one else out. A little freaky. But the weather was nice 🙂 Anyway bus was on time, caught the #1 to the airport which took a lovely 2 hours. Watched The Mentalist and an episode of Suits on the bus ride over, which helped pass the time.

Got to the airport around 4am, lights off – kinda cool to see the airport at that time of night, actually. Got to see it in the very rare state of “quiet”. You know that things are starting to wake up when the annoying voice comes on over the PA suddenly to remind you not to let your luggage out of your sight. Got my boarding pass around 5:30am or so, no shops or food was open, so I boarded the plane after watching a bit more Suits.

Flight was a little over 2 hours long, and O M G the seats were squeezed together Air Asia style. I usually like being tall, but with airlines like this… bah!!! So it was a fairly uncomfortable ride, but I did manage to sleep off and on for the two hours, if you can call that “sleep”. Arrived in Barcelona for an hour and a half layover, got a nice sandwich – though apparently I didn’t make myself clear enough when ordering so I wound up with a bunch of sauce all over it that had to be taken off (I wasn’t in the mood to try some weird crap on my sandwich, period), then caught the two some odd hour flight from Barcelona to Paris.

Same type of plane, same type of legroom, I’ll spare you the details.

Arrived in Paris at the Orly airport, which is a little further from the city but much cheaper to fly to (thank you!), despite the crappy conditions. Went right downstairs to the metro and caught the line to Gare Du Nord, the central train station. My hostel is just a 10 minute walk away from there, so I’m quite thrilled with the location – in the middle of the city and very easy to get around.

Operating on very little sleep I decided to keep going, since if I stopped I’d be down and wouldn’t be getting back up anytime soon. Explored the area a bit and got around on the metro, found my way over to the Louvre – I love that building. I got a big stupid grin on my face seeing it again. Went in search of a prepaid SIM card for my phone, which is harder then it sounds. Two malls later I finally found one, though it took quite a while, and two visits to get it fully up and running – I do now have it going though, thankfully!

And that… was pretty much my day. Grabbed the metro back to the Hostel, now I’m sitting here wrapping up some stuff, and preparing for the next few days – trying to sort out what to do while I’m here. Thinking about going to Paris Disneyland (why not???), deciding what museums to check out, considering a trip up the Eiffel again, etc.

Meeting up with Sophie on Thursday, and then my cousin Chere has been extremely generous in inviting me over to her place for a few nights, and I also got an invite from a RYLA friend to go to a Rotaract party on Friday – so it’s going to be a busy week!

I’m thrilled to be back in Paris, the weather is actually very nice, or it was today – not too chilly at all, and it’s nice to get “back to it” after my little break there. I admit, I was starting to get bored.

Last but not least, I just wanted to quickly mention – it was announced today that Mike Pratt, President of Best Buy Canada is resigning and moving on to a new position as the US CEO of Toys R Us. While I didn’t know Mike personally, my impression of him was that he was a terrific leader and set a wonderful tone for Best Buy Canada, so I just wanted to say that he will be missed!

And with that, I’m going to hang up the typing fingers (that’s not an expression I’m going to use again…), wrap up a few things and get to bed early.

Whatever you’re up to, have fun with it 🙂
