Let me just start at the end of my day, because it turned out to be pretty cool. You know how you’ll see those red carpet events, all the stars walking down and giving interviews and all that jazz? Well turns out I was there for one of those.
I had to move my car from it’s parking spot today because the HPD blocked it off for something, first it looked like Hawaii 5-0 was shooting today but eventually I found out it was the Worldwide Premiere of the Hawaii 5-0 Season 3! So that was kind of cool. I’m not a huge fan of the show, but I’ll watch it every now and then, and when isn’t it just cool to be at a world premiere for something?
So I stuck around, got into the whole thing and got some pictures of some of the stars. Saw the first ep (I won’t spoil it for anyone, the rest of you get to see it tomorrow night!), was entertained by some of the bands and groups they brought it, had some Shave Ice (which is quite popular here.. someone needs to explain to me why it’s not “Shaved” Ice, but that’s for another day I guess).
It was pretty cool to see, on top of the actors there was the entire crew from the show, the two Executive Producers came on and spoke a bit, and an interesting guest (or so my nerdy mind thought) was the President of CBS Entertainment – noting of course that there was another big event somewhere else (Emmy’s anyone?) – so clearly, and she outlined this in her speech, 5-0 is pretty important to CBS.
Anyway the Mayor and Governor came around and declared today to be Hawaii 5-0 day or something like that, a few very talented musicians came on and then they played the episode! Hard to find a spot, you can tell this is a very popular show here, and obviously has a lot of local support. It seems like the entire island was out tonight. So very cool, and neat to know that they support the locals, and that the locals support them.
OK so what else…today my room mate (Myles) and I went to the ZOO! It’s literally a 2 minute walk away from the Hostel so we thought why not! A bunch of cool animals, haven’t been to a zoo in a few years, so it was fun.
No real “shows” or anything, which was too bad, but overall not a bad way to start the day. Unfortunately the food was nothing to write home about, so I have no new pictures of me trying cool new foods, but I can assure you that from the cruise there will be many.
Other good news/bad news – my Macbook in recent weeks has been giving signs of being unhappy. I’ve already had the hard drive replaced once, recently, but it still was randomly shutting down and just not really giving me a lot of confidence in it going overseas. So I made the decision today, after it died on me again and again yesterday, and again this morning, to make a run out to the Apple store.
SO I’m now typing on a brand new MacBook Air, much lighter, same size screen and keyboard, new i5 processor, all that good stuff. Not totally happy, since I’m spending much more money than I want to, but I guess it’s better to do it now then before I go for a leap across the ocean… right? That’s my rational… and I really do need it for work. Hopefully I’ll be able to write it off against the business expenses. We’ll see how that goes.
And with that I think I’ll call it a night… the premiere went for a few hours, I’m back in the room and ready for my last full day here tomorrow. I think I’m going to try to take another drive around (decided to keep the car for one more day, I’ll give it back tomorrow night though, which is a full day early so that’s a little money saved there!), spend some time on the beach, maybe try a little body boarding/surfing??? No, pictures of me falling flat on my face will not be available (Rebecca…).
May I just say, even though I have no idea if anyone actually reads this lol, I’m pretty impressed that I’ve been updating this daily??? :p Yes, I think I may.
So I will, and I do, and I am. And with that, Mahalo for reading, if you are, and Aloha/Goodbye (and good night).
