What’s Next? The beginning

Have you ever watched the show “The West Wing”? It’s one of my favourites. If not my all time favourite. The President, skillfully played by Martin Sheen (written by Mr. Aaron Sorkin), will move from issue to issue with the words “What’s next?”, which meant quite clearly to his staff that he was done with that particular issue and it was time to move on to the next.

I’ve always been rather taken by this, and today I’m taking the phrase literally and looking at “What’s next” as I hand in my resignation to Best Buy Canada from my role as Operations Manager with the Burlington store in September, and embark on a 10 month trip around the world.

Travel has always been a passion of mine, and this is the time in my life to do it. I’ll be starting off with a 19 day cruise from Hawaii to Australia, visiting my host sister Shauna for a while, then proceeding to backpack or stay at hostels across somewhere in the area of 25 different locations ranging from Thailand to Egypt, Italy and the UK. I hope to visit with as many people as I can, from host sisters to some of the great people I met through Rotary, and new friends along the way.

It wasn’t an easy decision to leave behind the people and store that I’ve known for the past six years, but I feel it’s time to move on to “what’s next”, and am confident that the team I’m leaving behind will continue to do a wonderful job without me.

I have asked Best Buy to allow me to remain on board as a contractor, working on my projects remotely, so I look forward to continuing my involvement with Best Buy from that perspective, and perhaps returning in another role when I’m back in Canada next year.

Best Buy has taught me a lot about life, business and human interaction, and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to grow in the company, and work with the amazing team of people that I have worked with.

If you’d like to chat please grab me in person, give me a call or feel free to drop me an email (or Facebook, or whatever other method of electronic communication you feel is available to you) – I’d love to chat. I will continue to be in contact over the year with a new travel blog charting my conquests (mostly so me and my terrible memory does not forget them), and continuing my work with Best Buy.

“What’s next?”
